Thing #1:
I received a phone call today from the bridal store. Cyndy was there picking up her dress and FREAKED out because she thought it was supposed to be blue. heh. And I can understand a bit as I was very wishy washy on what color to pick for a while. They are decidedly NOT blue, but a rich cranberry color that really is quite lovely. I went in on Wednesday with the jewelry I bought for the bridesmaids and a picture of the bouquet and was holding back tears when I saw the dress. I think those girls are really going to look beautiful. :)

Thing #2:
I had my 6-month review on Sunday (because I am not at the top of my pay scale, I receive semi-annual reviews). I got a 71ยข/hour raise and my boss said I'm "an excellent employee". I calculated that I will then receive - before taxes - about $1300 more a year with this raise.

Thing #3:
Back in the day when I was in college, I was under the assumption that when I was 3 years out of college (which I am now) I would be making about twice as much as I am making.

Thing #4:
Two weekends ago I spent two full 12 hour shifts working on a particular lettershop job (not including hours I had spent on it on my day off earlier that week). The job proofed back today with corrections. Scheduling wanted to move the job up to start running in production TODAY. I had my department head popping back to my desk periodically asking questions about the job: When will you be done? Are there many versions? Can some of them run while you work on the other versions? Interspersed was the Customer Service Representative calling, emailing, stopping me in the hall on the way to and from the bathroom, popping back by the macs asking relatively the same questions.

I told them I could guarantee I'd have the changes done by Monday - after I worked on them all day today and probably most of Saturday.

Early this afternoon I went in to my department head's office feeling like I needed to prove to him or perhaps explain a little better why it would take me so long when they wanted it so soon. He listened to my argument but told me (paraphrased) that he has total confidence in me that if I say they can't have the changes done today that they won't get done today and that I'll get them done correctly in the amount of time it will take to get them done.

It was kinda nice to hear that from two tiers up the corporate ladder that he knows I work hard and don't fuck around.

Thing #5:
I got a big heavy package in the mail today. It did not have a card or anything, but the return address was some company in Connecticut (where my good friend Gina lives). In it were two bottles of Hard Cider from a cider mill in Connecticut that originally started in 1912. Impressed is me. Can't wait to open them!
