A comics artist I've never met is making me cry right now. He's a DJ at an internet radio station. His husband died this week after a long battle with brain cancer. It is the last song of his DJ shift; the whole thing dedicated to his husband.

This morning, my coworker announced she got another grand daughter last night. This is the second in two weeks. She's off this morning so she can take care of her 17 month old grandson, the newest grand daughter's older brother.

Yesterday was picture day on the breastfeeding FB group I'm in. One mother posted a picture of her son who only lived one day. She's pumping anyway and is going to donate her milk, whatever she gets. He looks plump and scrunchy faced and big and healthy.

Next week is Xmas already. When did that happen?

I would like to aspire to be a parent like this one day.

That is all.

Thing that makes me giggle:
On the St Cloud Times website, there is this story bit:
People look for ways to make quick cash
Al Lassen, manager of Granite City Pawn Shop, works on a firearms purchase application between customers Wednesday.

When I first read that, I thought that Al was gonna buy a firearm to make some quick cash!

It's early. Give me a break.

Baby Abraham was born at 5:34am on Saturday, March 8th. He's so cute! He has a little dimple in his left cheek just like his dad. He's got tiny little monkey feet.

It also finally occurred to me why the comic Baby Blues has a baby named Hammie. Before I always wondered why a family would name a kid after food. But I understand now that it is short for Abraham.

So Jody has two kids: Tater and Hammie. hehe.

I am SO ready for spring. The thing I look forward to most is the end of my eternal refilling of the humidifiers. I feel like every time I look at them, I have to refill them. And it's that or nosebleeds and annoying crusty boogers.

My cubicle is faced such that the sun in its current position is able to shine directly into my eyes in the 1 ft of window that peers out over the top of the cubicle. Methinks I'll have to get a tall shelf and add some plants to block it.

And seriously, people. Don't call me in the morning all bitchy because you can't type in a website address correctly. That ain't my fault. Good thing we have it in a PDF where the link is clickable. It's amazing how many fat fingers (including my own) that cures.

Oh yes, and also: taxes suck. I finally see why there are people out there rooting for Ron Paul. These are the people who want immediate gratification and are unable to save money. Kinda like me right now. I received the automatic deposit pay stub for my bonus and stupid taxes took almost half of it! And they treated it like my normal paycheck, so 10% went into my 401k and then the rest of it got put in our family accounts instead of my personal accounts. (That last part is more my fault than anything else, and just annoying that I have to transfer funds between accounts now.) I realize that I have to pay taxes and stuff, but my own naiveness had me assuming I'd just be getting a nice fat check to hold in my hands and drool over. *pout*

Quick!

  • Not a kidney stone. Got some antibiotics and feeling better!
  • New news! I will be a bridesmaid in Gary and Terryll's wedding in June!
  • Researching rain gardens... Maplewood, Minnesota has done some neat things. I don't know yet if its feasible at our house, but it'd be nice if our laundry room didn't flood every spring!
  • Does anyone know of a good book or two on XML and .NET? New projects at work and it will need to be European compatible (being owned by a French company and all...)
  • Hey Karma, be nicer to everyone who has had babies very recently or will be having babies very soon! No more gestational diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, liquid filled cysts and labor horror stories. I mean it!
  • Oh yeah. The lab technician (James) at the clinic on Friday just happened to be the same guy I worked with at Sears in the Electronics department who also was the president of the fraternity across the street from me at my first apartment. Talk about the world getting smaller! I still remember him dressed up as a drunken sailor for Halloween one year...
  • Busy weekends this month: company party this weekend, Hawaii next weekend (missing [livejournal.com profile] princess_nicci's bridal shower), then [livejournal.com profile] motogeek's poker party.

Ok, so maybe not that quick. heh.

I've taken to looking at the puppy page lately. I really should stop that.

Yesterday I said "Fuck it!" and decided to put gas in the tank and take Darlene for a spin. (For some reason, I've been calling her Dolores in my head, recently, which is really one of my old computer towers in the closet with some old ass Red Hat installed on it) Then I took her for a drive all over town. 13 miles on her at 30 miles an hour. It was frickin' fun! It was a little muggy, but with the breeze it was OH so nice.

It was all I could really think about today at work while trying to figure out what was wrong with my unix bins. (I don't know much about unix and then it doesn't work right anyway. grr) It is Amanda's birthday today, so I took Darlene all the way across town to Waite Park and got her a gift card from Crafts Direct - because her craft corner isn't cluttered enough! It was by far the farthest (furthest?) I've ever driven her and also the fastest: there's 40 mph zones over that-a-way. And the whole trip went smoothly! Then she started right away in the parking lot, too! So I drove her down to Mexican Village (where everyone goes on their birthday for a free meal).

David, Amanda's future stepson, was there along with 2.5 yr old Kalen (I totally just spelled that wrong) who is Amanda's friend's son. I took pictures of them both on Darlene out in the parking lot.

Oh, yes. My good friend Karen just had her baby boy last Tuesday.

Aaron Patrick Barnes was born on May 8th. :)

EEE!!!!

I was all crabby yesterday when we were at the mall. Too many fucking people who were pregnant or had babies and kids and stuff. Bastards. grumblegrumble

And then to top it all off, Tim got a phone call from Dennis. CYNDY HAD HER BABY ON FRIDAY! Oh, that is so exciting! (Really, it is). Ella Jean

She was born on Friday the 13th, which is quite fitting for her tattooed, pierced, all-black-wearing, goth-metal fan of a father. hee. She's gonna be a daddy's girl.

In a way, I like them having a baby even more than Gary and Terryll because Gary and Terryll had her other two kids already, so their lives didn't change quite as dramatically. Ella is Cyndy and Dennis' first baby. They are just as confused as I would be, and it makes me feel better for being the freak that I am. As we were leaving their house last night, they hadn't quite figured out how often to feed her yet. :)

Oh, she's a calm little cutie pie!

Olivia Sky Beniek was born at 12:45 this morning. She was 8lbs 5 oz, even though she was only 39 weeks in the womb. So she's average size for a 41 week baby. She's alert and calm and happy (as long as you don't touch her sore head) and her eyes are open. Her mom and dad are doing well, also. Gary is just giddy. And such a proud daddy. Terryll looks lovely, as always. She and Olivia get to go home tomorrow.

So, did I tell you guys I put my application in for grad school last week?

Did I tell you that I got a letter in the mail last Friday saying I was missing a letter of recommendation and my GRE scores?

The letter was in the mail, but the GRE scores? Did I tell you that the application and letters of recommendation forms I sent out were from SCSU because they had received my GRE scores?

uh huh. Makes sense to me, too.

Apparently I am on a very aggressive mail list now for Duke's MEM degree. I just got a letter in the mail talking about how a certain company offers a full tuition fellowship, paid summer internship and $1500 stipend for summer relocation and living allowances to women and minorities interested in the MEM degree. Only two of them, but damn!

Tim thinks I should apply. But Duke is all the way in North Carolina. I'd miss him and the kitty cat. But, I suppose applying will only cost me a stamp and an application fee and if I get the fellowship (not likely) it'd be an opportunity I couldn't turn down.

Final event of the day: Terryll had her water broken at 9am this morning. A little after lunch Tim texted Gary to find out the status. Gary was still pacing the halls at that point and we haven't heard anything since. I guess we'll just have to wait to meet Olivia...

(I gave blood last night, too. I figure it can't hurt having a couple extra pints on hand.)

And tomorrow I have to work.

It is October. It is not time for snow.

I thought the white frozen stuff on the deck this morning was just possibly frost. But no. It was snow.

It even snowed while I was leaving work tonight.

How I really know its cold out: after going outside twice this morning for less than five minutes, the cat parked herself in front of the heat vent in the upstairs bathroom for the rest of the day, only briefly leaving if someone had food she might be interested in.

And now for something completely different, Karen and Alan are having another baby! Their son Levi will be two in February and the new baby is due May 8th!

So, that means two of my four bridesmaids are now pregnant. Holy crap.

I had a dream last night. (obvious reasons why this has to be a dream)

My mom and I were at the mall to eat chinese food (because my mom is not currently in Florida and there's a chinese restaurant in the mall.)

We saw Gary and Terryll there looking through the movie store to see what they wanted to rent. (because there's a rental place in the mall)

Mom and I went downstairs (becausen there's a downstairs at our mall) and saw Terryll shopping for clothes.

That's when she told us she's having twins.

I felt it necessary to point out all of the flaws in my dream to help reassure people that I am not psychic and Terryll is more than likely not having twins. Just thought I'd clarify.

Oh yes. NEWS!

Yesterday, my good friend Cyndy,

The rather buxom blonde puckering up to my husband, there, found out she's having a baby! She's only about a month pregnant as she hasn't "missed anything" yet. She said her boobs hurt so she took a test. And then two more, just to make sure. Her husband Dennis and I were figuring that meant she's due in May. He's so happy. He said, "I'll finally have my own little Hannibal."

heh

And the plans for Terryll's

baby shower are in the works. I think the theme will be "Aloha Olivia". I asked Tim if it was cheesy. His response: "Yeah, but isn't it supposed to be?" I figure she's not quite the pink fluffy bunny kind of girl, and we all loved Hawaii, so this could be fun.

Ok. Last post today.
jillithian: (pwnd Cute Overload)
Tim was concerned about stuff today at work and couldn't sleep and was all stressin'.

So, to distract him, I told him that recently I've been dreaming that I am pregnant and it will be a little blonde girl.

That made him stop for a moment.

(And just for the official stuff, I am more than likely not pregnant and would not even have a thought of knowing until at least next Wednesday. Besides, I've been taking my pill. ;-p )

I apparently am not smart enough to use self tanners.

Currently I look like I have a hickey on my neck, a big bruise on my wrist, and somehow the fronts of my legs are orange-zebra-y while the backs are just as pale as when I started.

doh.

AND AND!!!

We received a card in the mail today from my lovely friend Gina who once lived in Connecticut but now lives in Sheboygan WI and it's from "Regina, Heath, and Baby Amber". !!! I must send her a letter to ask all of the details and for photos!

I taught myself how to crochet last night. Kind of. Except that apparently 27 stitches is supposed to be 7" long and 54 stitches is supposed to be 27" long (or something to that effect) and my 54-stitch chain is about 8.5" long. So, my crochet math skills leave much to be desired. I'll have to ask Kevin for help on making my holes looser and bigger. Heh. heheh. heh.

heh

Anyhoo, I was thinking that since they say blankets are good first projects, I'd try to make a baby blanket for Gary and Terryll. I have about 7 months to figure it out so if I stick with it, I should be able to complete a decent looking chunk of yarn.
jillithian: (Default)
Things of note:
We stopped at WestSide Liquor on the East side (heh) and I found "Vampire" wine from Transylvania -- actual wine from Romania! They were $10 a bottle and there were 5 types... I was very tempted to buy one of each. I think I will have to for Saturday. I'm pretty sure Dan might also be amused...

I have a co-worker (the lady pregnant with twins) whose birthday it was today. She absolutely loves pineapple and tells stories about eating it as a child with her dad and how her youngest also loves it. So last night I baked her a pineapple upside-down cake. And today I forgot it at home in the fridge. I'm having one of those days.
