In home improvement updates:
I decided I'd try to paint the wall above the window the same color as the bottom of the other walls - "Pressed Linen," I believe it's called. We'll call it an "accent" wall. Tim scrunched his nose up a bit when he first saw it, but I assured him that if we don't like it, it's only paint and we can repaint it. "We've got more than enough paint" I tell him.

So then, last night I decided to start painting some of the stripes the "Urban Gold" color. I was standing on a chair to paint the top of the wall and on the last stripe on one wall, I went to sit on the chair from my standing position and lean against the back of the chair to get to the lower portion. FYI: when planning on doing this, please ensure that the chair back is actually behind you and not to your left. I ended up falling backwards into the bathroom counter and spilled a bunch of paint on myself, the chair, the floor and a little splatter on the wall. Yes, yes. I rule. I know. I figured that was enough painting for one evening.

In work updates:
I just sent off the second version of an enhanced report I've been working on. I had sent off the first version yesterday to the customer and she had noticed I needed to add in functionality for the custom report options. This is by far the most code I've written in years - not counting the piddly JCLs I used to write at Nahan. And it's in C/SQL combined code which I've never written before. I feel so accomplished right now. I even made sure that the report header was updated. Response from my customer:
It worked this time.
This is gonna save me hours. Thank you so much!!!
Tina

She's one of my favorite customers. She's demanding and has an ever growing list of requests, but if you send her stuff to test, she'll test the crap out of it and send back excellent feedback in a timely manner.

In donation updates:
I've got some very generous friends, family and co-workers. I'm at 95% of my goal! That's just fricken awesome. Now if I can just convince Jody to have Jackson's fifth birthday party late enough in the day that I can still go... (the walk starts at 10am and she was saying that that she thought she'd have his party that day)

Also, her brother is hilarious. He suggested that the theme this year should be "Jackson 5". Can you imagine everyone in afro wigs?! Sylla said he might try to grow his hair out for his own natural afro. :)

Thing that makes me giggle:
On the St Cloud Times website, there is this story bit:
People look for ways to make quick cash
Al Lassen, manager of Granite City Pawn Shop, works on a firearms purchase application between customers Wednesday.

When I first read that, I thought that Al was gonna buy a firearm to make some quick cash!

It's early. Give me a break.

Baby Abraham was born at 5:34am on Saturday, March 8th. He's so cute! He has a little dimple in his left cheek just like his dad. He's got tiny little monkey feet.

It also finally occurred to me why the comic Baby Blues has a baby named Hammie. Before I always wondered why a family would name a kid after food. But I understand now that it is short for Abraham.

So Jody has two kids: Tater and Hammie. hehe.

I am SO ready for spring. The thing I look forward to most is the end of my eternal refilling of the humidifiers. I feel like every time I look at them, I have to refill them. And it's that or nosebleeds and annoying crusty boogers.

My cubicle is faced such that the sun in its current position is able to shine directly into my eyes in the 1 ft of window that peers out over the top of the cubicle. Methinks I'll have to get a tall shelf and add some plants to block it.

And seriously, people. Don't call me in the morning all bitchy because you can't type in a website address correctly. That ain't my fault. Good thing we have it in a PDF where the link is clickable. It's amazing how many fat fingers (including my own) that cures.

Oh yes, and also: taxes suck. I finally see why there are people out there rooting for Ron Paul. These are the people who want immediate gratification and are unable to save money. Kinda like me right now. I received the automatic deposit pay stub for my bonus and stupid taxes took almost half of it! And they treated it like my normal paycheck, so 10% went into my 401k and then the rest of it got put in our family accounts instead of my personal accounts. (That last part is more my fault than anything else, and just annoying that I have to transfer funds between accounts now.) I realize that I have to pay taxes and stuff, but my own naiveness had me assuming I'd just be getting a nice fat check to hold in my hands and drool over. *pout*

Spent Wednesday through Saturday at a hotel in Minneapolis for our company's user group meeting. It consisted of free food, comfy beds, and hours on end with a bunch of optical people I don't know. I'm the sort that handles large groups of unknown people only in small doses, so by Friday afternoon I skipped out for an hour and tried to take a nap -- I had a massive headache. The unfamiliar people paired with the unfamiliar setting and then add to that my first two days of classes on Monday and Tuesday and then Saturday skipping out early to play in a golf tournament with more unfamiliars and I was wiped out. Oy. It was nice, though, that Jody and Jack were able to stay over at the hotel with me on Friday night. I still don't get to see them nearly enough.

Today consisted of being a bum, trying to finish my homework, and re-acquainting myself with my wonderful husband.

My dad's birthday is on Tuesday. His namesake, my great uncle Bibs, passed away the week before last. (He was nearly 90) Turns out they scheduled the funeral for Tuesday. So, my dad is flying up from Florida to attend a funeral in Hibbing and then staying at my house all on his birthday. Doesn't sound very festive to me. In the few spare hours I will have before he arrives, I'll have to spiffy the place up a bit and try to make it seem more festive. If I can get it done right, I hope to have a plate of brownies (his favorite instead of cake) and maybe his favorite beer and his favorite pizza ready for him. I won't even be home when he gets here as I have class on Tuesday. I just feel really sad for him.

I'm not sure when he will be leaving, but then on Saturday my mom arrives. She has some work meetings in the cities next Monday and Tuesday, so she figured she'd fly up a couple days early to visit Tim and me.

Ug. And the headache is back and I still have a little bit more homework left.

Good night.

After chatting with Miss Jody Mae, it sounds like I may be going here in the next year or so. *grin*

Unfortunately, it may not be in her son's best interest to go... (second to last paragraph)

Mandatory overtime continues...

The parents seemed to have a good time this weekend. The Huskies won the hockey game on Friday. We had a good time. :)

Saturday we had lunch at Mongo's and it was yummy (as usual). We drove around town and I showed them the house with the fake palm trees on the river, where Tim works, where I work, and the rental house. That evening I made dinner and Jody and Jack came over. He is just smarter and smarter by the second, that one. At one point, he was looking through an old year book where I have a bunch of Jody's senior pictures. He had two in his hand and said "I have two mommies." Then he saw another one, picked it up and said "Now I have three mommies." How many three year olds know what three actually means? Usually it's just the word after "two". But Jack knows it means a quantity of three. He also claimed the little pocket reference book Mom and Dad gave me. When I put him to bed, he asked me to read out of his black book. So, now Jack and I know what to do if someone is suffering from hypothermia or a bloody nose. heh.

As it was his first time sleeping at Aunty Jill's house without Mommy (she was having an adult night out), I let him keep a little flashlight with him when he went to bed. Jody got in later and found the little blond three-year-old clutching a flashlight and a reference manual with a firetruck blanket wrapped around him. Unfortunately, no pictures were taken of that cute tableau.

We opened a few presents together and Tim gave me The Sims 2. My brain is no longer my own. Poor Murphy, my little Sim. He was having a hard time because he fell in love and married Nina and all he wanted was a baby. All she wanted was to have "WooHoo" with three different Sims. A baby was one of her biggest fears. But, days have gone by and they now have a little girl who promptly barfed all over her daddy. :)

Do not expect any kind of intelligent conversation with me for the next few weeks. You have been warned.

Spent a beautiful day at Lake Minnewashta (in Minnetonka) with Jody, Jack, Jody's sister Katie and Jody's future brother-in-law Eric. Eric drove us around in the boat, we had snacks, went swimming, waved at the sheriffs as they drove by, sunbathed and talked smack about all the rich folks.

And Tim stayed home and slept.

HA!

Absolutely gorgeous day. Couldn't have thought of a better way to spend it. :)

Interesting thing.

Jody and I have been friends since I moved back to Minnesota in tenth grade. We had a rocky year in 2000 when she said Andrea would fuck us over and not pay rent and I didn't believe her and then Andrea fucked me over and didn't pay rent. We graduated from college together. When she got pregnant with Jack, I had bought a pregnancy test the week before for myself. When she became a single mom, I became single three days later. That adorable little crying pooper helped us both get through some trying weeks as we adjusted to our single status. Every vehicle either of us has ever owned is the same color as the other person's at that time. She had a white Dodge Sundance in high school. I had a white Chevy Nova in high school. She had a white Chevy S10 pickup in college. I had a white Pontiac Grand Prix in college. She got a beige-y tan colored SUV after moving to the cities with a full time job. I got a beige-y tan colored sedan after getting a full time job. None of these decisions were premeditated or planned.

Lately we've both been very busy with life and family and work. We haven't seen each other as often as we'd like or talked to each other as often as we'd like. In fact, I hadn't seen her in about three weeks until last night.

Did I mention I got a short, sassy haircut last Saturday? Did I mention she got a short, sassy haircut on Wednesday? Did I mention we hadn't told each other about our plans to get short, sassy haircuts?

It's nice to know that even if we are distant in some ways, we'll still be on the same wavelengths.

Last night I dropped off the 23 FunSaver cameras from the reception at Coborns. It'll be interesting to see if I can tell the difference between the photos of the most avid photographers that night: the 2 year old ring bearer Jack or the 9 year old nephew Craig. Neither of whom really got the concept of setting the flash. :)

I just got finished planting some flowers around the mailbox and digging up our tulip bulbs in the back garden. Just as I was digging up my last tulip, it started to sprinkle, so I think I timed it pretty well. I'm off to the gym now, as it's been over two weeks and I feel the flab coming on!

Just got back from taste-testing cakes at Cold Spring Bakery. We decided on the almond flavored cake with buttercream frosting (as the bettercream apparently is too soft for layers).

Dman, cakes are expensive, but I don't regret it as it will taste absolutely delicious and look pretty nice, too.

History cat does not like Jack. The first time she met him, she puked. This time, luckily, she just hid underneath the futon behind some storage containers.

Jack knows his color "green" and "orange" quite well. Well, at least the orange, as everything else is green or red. But he knows what is really green as I bought him a gingerbread man with green frosting. And he knows his animals and animal sounds quite well. And he even went pee on the potty today. Not bad for a 2 year old.
