Short update:

Rode Darlene to work last Thursday and Friday. Felt like the biggest dumbass on Thursday because on my way home for lunch, I started her up and got as far as the first stop light before she died. Could NOT start her up again. Stranded in the middle of a road at an intersection. A guy on a motorcycle drove past, came back and tried to push start her for me. Still wouldn't start. "Why aren't you starting?" I asked her. "You have gas in you!" The guy looked at me, said "Are you sure?" and turned the fuel valve to "ON".

*facepalm*

Went to Canada last weekend with Tim, [livejournal.com profile] jo_mommday and her soon-to-be 4-yr-old Jack. Got some fun. Had some drinks. There were twenty of us up there - two full cabins! Weather was beautiful up to Monday morning, but it held the rain/hail until we were back in the states and in the car. Well, it held until we were 15 miles out of International Falls when Jack decided he needed to pee really bad. So, as soon as he and Jody hopped out and aimed for the nearest tree, it started hailing!

Work has been good. Slow at times, though. I don't know enough to be able to just start working on shit, and there's a big Users Group meeting next week in Minneapolis so everyone who could help me is busy (heh, almost typed "busty") writing up their PowerPoints. So me and the daily Sudoku have been friends when my eyes go buggy reading my C and UNIX books. I've been doing better, though. I think a huge indicator of this is that tonight I was trying to paste a web address in my browser and tried to right-click instead of hitting CTRL+V. (We access the UNIX machines with a terminal window that uses the mouse buttons to copy and paste text)

I'm a little wonky about the Users Group meeting because I'm too new to have anything to present or to know any of the users coming to see it. Plus, I don't have any khakis or branded polo shirts to wear. :Q

Hmmm... And I'm a little upset about my growing beer belly. *frowns and pokes* I'll have to use my punching bag a bit more avidly.

I did finish crocheting the bag for my mom's birthday next month. I think it turned out pretty well.

Classes start next week!

You were in Canada too, eh? Nicci and I went to Thunder Bay for two days. All told, a relatively cheap weekend. Except don't buy gas in Canada. It's deceiving because they sell it by the liter, but gas is like $1.50 more expensive up there.

And that's my story about Canada.

[livejournal.com profile] dibsy and I were in Montreal for two days last week. We didn't buy gas, though.

I assume the job you're doing is in development?

If so I'd say just get the source and start building on your local machine. You can't hurt anything as long as you don't check anything in. Just experiment with the product a little, add silly features that don't really do much, that sorta thing. Meanwhile keep notes on stuff you don't understand. If you don't have that stuff figured out by the time other folks are done you'll be able to ask informed questions.

That's a really good idea. Thank you!

I keep a webpage with stuff I think I might need later. When you're first starting somewhere there's usually lots of stuff it's hard to find out about, but it turns out you'll need over and over again.
